Was it a great or bad experience? Any suggestions of what to demeanour out for? we am meditative about shopping a 2006 Ford Fusion. It has low miles though was a let automobile before. It is Certified Pre-Owned? Thanks

Well unless the car comes with a good warranty! I mean at least 40k miles to be covered in the future I would buy it. However if there is no warranty i would not buy it. More people have driven that car than a public bathroom is used. I really wouldn’t suggest it. People abuse rental cars.
Having rented many cars – I can tell you that I beat the hell out of all of them. Jackrabbit starts, slamming the breaks and doing everything in my power to drop the tranny. Just as long as theres no scratch bigger than a quarter when I hand it back.
And you want to buy it??? Dont do it
rental cars have usually been maintained better than most.
They may have also been abused by a few drivers who think its fun to tear up other peoples things. The same kind of people like to kill kittens for fun.
All in all, I think the maintenance makes up for the other.
Certified simply means priced higher but has been inspected and probably includes a better than normal warranty.
Despite what some idiot at a chevy dealer says, the vast majority of rental cars from the major rental companys HAVE been well maintained !
Further, they are checked between each rental which is far more than I check my car.
NEVER! EVER! Buy a rental car/loaner car/demo. EVER! I work for a chevy dealer and these cars are put through hell. Oil changes rarely ever get completed more frequently than every 15k miles.
Rentals can be great or complete crap, just like any other used car. Be sure to take it to a mechanic to get checked out before you buy as some people certainly do beat on them more than they ever would their own car.
“Certified” is just a catch phrase that people have been trained to look for on a used car lot. By itself, it’s completely meaningless. But, “certified” is often tied to an extended warranty that actually costs you money. If you’re willing to give that extended warranty up you can get a lower price. And if the car looks like it’s in good shape and checks out OK with your mechanic, then I’d ask for $500 off after you’ve negotiated your best price–tell them they can keep that extended warranty.
Like some other answers have said its all about how it was taken care of on a case by case basis.
The only good news I have for you is this. If this car is certified it should mean that you are buying it from a Ford dealer.
The way rental cars work is this, the rental company returns them to ford, and ford needs to sell them.
1st place they go is what is called a closed ford sale/auction. this is where only ford dealers can get these cars.
if they dont get sold there they try national wholesale auctions, where most of the buyers are car dealers, but there is no restriction as to what make your store sells.
if they dont sell there they go to more locall auctions where they can be bought by just about anybody with a dealer license, you know the used car only joints you see, especially smaller side of the road places.
the best cars get picked out by the ford dealers first. I garauntee there was about 50 06′ fusions just like yours to choose from when that ford dealer bought yours at the sale. and a week later there would have been 50 more just like it. so if you get these cars from the same type of dealer i.e. a ford rental from a ford dealer they are probably going to be nicer because the ford dealer get to pick the best of the bunch. and it works the same for all manufactorers, chevy dealers get the best chevy’s and so on.
also they do have to meet several qualifacations to be a certified car, clean carfax, new brakes, etc etc, so chances are your getting a pretty good car.
I own two of them. Bought them in 2004 and they are still running great.
I bought my daughter an ex rental 2005 Cavalier last year and the car has been perfect. I am totally happy. And contrary to what some people say, very few rental cars are abused. Because people just do not want the hassle if they break the car. And I have to tell you it is a big hassle if you break the rental car.
They just want to get where they are going with no hassle and do not treat it like some plaything. And if they do break something it shows pretty quick. Jackrabbit starts do not hurt a modern car. And if they rev the engine and then drop it into gear, the car’s computer records that now. The rental company can tell.
If it is Certified Pre Owned and the price is good, then go for it.
