while it better to leave it in d4 when it says just one that is for like taking off fast like if you gonna race or something and its fine to change them while driving but not while your driving fast

Yes your d4 is your over drive d3 and so on is for town driving.

You will do all of your driving in d4 which is basically your overdrive gear. This gear will get you the best mpg the car has to offer.

The 1,2, d3 are just lower gears. Think of it as a 4 speed manual. You can shift through the gears from a stop and d4 would end up being like for 5th or 6th gear in a manual.

D4 is most likely what you should use for everyday driving, it shifts through all 3 gears plus makes overdrive available ( #4 ). In slick road conditions, like rain, snow, etc., I would use D3. or even the 2 setting to keep it from upshifting. The 1 is strictly low gear and will rarely be needed, unless you were pulling something like a boat out of the water on a ramp. And no, you should never downshift from D4 or D3 to the 1 setting while moving.

Honda’s automatic trans is alittle touchy (you don’t want to be rough on it)1 and 2 you should only use if you where pulling something ( small ) or if it were snowing and weren’t going to be going very fast. (15-20mph)D3 is geared lower because its meant for city driving, You’ll find D3 make you trans work harder though, going up and down in gears….D4 is your best bet it has a median not to low where its going up and down in gears and not to high where you don’t have any power and is good for city and hwy
