if the tires are below 5/32 tread tell them you want new ones then youll buy it. check the tranny fluid see if its burnt black looking. make sure it has plenty of brake pads left and rotors arent too cut up. take it to a parking lot and make sharp turns to make sure the cv axles dont pop. check the coolant, make sure it dont stumble while your driving…drive it for a while.

i dont know about mileage, but I’d say look at the paint, if the shades are different, it means he maybe had a car accident before hand which is bad.

any scratches on the car, this shows that it may have been mistreated, so the owner may have abused the car which is bad. (driving like an idiot)

check if it has all the proper spare tire changing tools..
does the car sound normal when you switch the ignition on?
any loud sounds, etc… unless he changed the exhaust etc.

check little things aswell, like air con, windows (may have holes in them which leak when raining)

take it for a drive, how does it brake? is there any water/ oil trial behind you?

    any rust on the car?

If they will let you take it to your shop to get checked over before you buy, you’re good. If not, be wary. Just have a good place to take it to. Don’t depend on carfax, thats only reported happenings. Take it to someone you trust takes their car to.

What ever you buy, DON’T do it before you get a Carfax report from http://www.carfax.com . This will give you a rough history of the car and in the detailed report, it should say if there has been anything major wrong with the car. If you are buying from a dealer, make this a pre-sale requirement for you to consider their car. If nothing shows up in the report, then take it to your trusted mechanic for a bumper to bumper inspection. Tell him you want to know everything there is to know about the condition of the car, especially the engine and the front end. Don’t trust a mechanic that the car dealer recommends, use your own.
As for the tires, they shouldn’t show any uneven wear, but if the front end passes inspection, the tires are a minor expense if you have to replace them.

Some things not to concentrate on Tires need to be good but not New (Replaceable), Paint with an 04 should still be Good, Mileage; 10,000 to 22,000 a Year is Average!

Sounds like you need to take some one with you that is a Good Mechanic to help you check over the Car!

NOTE; MOST Used Car Dealers are Bums & cheets! Best is “A New Car Dealer’s Used Car Section!” All of there Used Cars have been Complete Through All their Shops and the Warrant is More Real!
