There is a symbol noted “overdrive” upon a rigging change push of my automobile (toyota corolla se limited). what is this for? when to operate it? how?

Here’s a good article on how overdrive works.

The button is to turn the overdrive off. You may want to turn the overdrive off if you are pulling a trailer uphill, or even downhill, if you want the increased engine braking to help slow the vehicle. Normally, you don’t need to push this button at all.
When you turn off the overdrive, it will normally also give you higher shift points.
good luck.
