Most of a cars there have been right away all play ads or scams from what we have seen.

I always use Craigslist and choose for sale by owner not by dealer. You can also try auctions in your area. Either way I would definetely check the Vehicle History first. I always use CHEAPVINSEARCH.COM for Vehicle History Reports, they are really cheap (only 9.99) , fast and very accurate information!
